1. JewishDetroit.org Overhaul

JewishDetroit.org provides three primary services to users: 1) donate 2) register for events and 3) provide information for the organizations’ various programs and demographic groups. Our goal for the site redesign was to prioritize these tasks and make the site easier to use.

I began by conducting a content audit of the site and running card sorting sessions with potential users. This informed the new information architecture of the site along with various components of the UI. The card sorting sessions also elicited great feedback about the site’s current format and needs from users.

2. jHelp.org Formative Research

The Jewish Federation found that though many families needed social services, they were not getting help through Jewish agencies. This was mainly because of lack of awareness and perceived stigma around asking for help. I conducted a contextual inquiry with community members in their homes to discover how they find help in a crisis.

Duties
User Research Direction, Contextual Inquiry, Design Charrettes

When conducting contextual inquiries with potential users, we prompted them with problem scenarios like the following:

After asking people what they would do in a given situation, I captured people's journeys by observing and notetaking in the moment. Afterwards, I recreated the journey in screenshots for internal stakeholders.

Positives (green) and pain points (red) were recorded along the way as well.

We aggregated the data in the form of personas to narrow our target audience.

After conducting a contextual inquiry with community members, I led a design charrettes session with a team of non-designers, mainly social service professionals. After discussing problem statements and results from the contextual inquiry, we drafted design ideas and critiqued/ voted on solutions as a group.

After the design charrettes session, I digitized the concepts for review by internal stakeholders. The design patterns surfaced in this session went on to inform the design of the jHelp.org website.

3. jHelp.org Design & Implementation

Insights from the jHelp Contextual Inquiry and Design Charrettes session guided the website design and marketing campaign, as we found search engine ads played a significant role in user journeys. I wireframed, designed, and coded the front-end (HTML/CSS/JS) of the JhelpDetroit.org website and worked with a back-end developer for site launch.

7. Interactive Passover Guide

Designed to be run during a community Passover event, I created the Interactive Passover Guide to serve as a kiosk-style informational web app. The content was pulled from a print Passover Guide distributed every year by JFamily. I enjoyed creating animations in JavaScript that reacted to the user’s scrolling of the content to create an engaging interactive experience.
